Optimal performance

FARMINGDALE, NY - The concept of "strokes gained pressure" is exemplified in golf's greatest team competition. Who can perform under the brightest lights? After decades of PGA coaching and spending time with elite touring professionals, including Tiger Woods, I have found the most reliable key to performance is preparation. Some might think using VR headsets to simulate New York fans is a good idea, but the reality is that each player should study the golf course and be prepared. The Captain can make a difference. By placing teammates together who complement one another based on Bethpage's characteristics, it gives each of them the best chance to succeed. If you are just jumping in this week, RTL published a complete Bethpage Black course breakdown yesterday.

What are the complementary skills Captains Keegan and Luke seek? The Black Course is a big ballpark. Strokes gained off the tee seems obvious, but in two sessions, each player only hits half of the tee shots! Pairing two super scorers in Fourball should be easy? If you know they get along, what else would you consider? If you just started watching them this week, you are in trouble. These teams were built over 18 months of PGA TOUR and LIV Golf competition. The European Team even created an event on the DP World Tour called the Team Cup. Guess what formats they utilize: foursomes, fourball, and singles. Read The Line has been inside the ropes for three (plus) years. Our insights are extremely valuable. The combination of our educated eye, analytics, and Ryder Cup experience is the best performance blueprint.

Please note, this is a team event. Handicapping each side for 16 of the 28 matches involves a partner. Therefore, ranking everyone one through 24 doesn't make sense until Sunday. Even then, how are you ranking them? The absence of pairings is frustrating, but we can create a database of important player information. Starting with who are the best players for each team format? Pairings aside, who excels at alternate shot for each side? Who will pair best in Fourball? Two great scorers are only complementary if they don't score on the same hole! I took an innovative approach to the team Power Rankings in Golf Digest. This match is a specialized competition. Once the best players qualified on points, the remainder of each team should have been built with the Black Course and their teammates in mind.

Our reliable RTL links are below. Keep an eye on the weather. That real-time link will be your best friend if you are coming to Bethpage. The Thursday storm still looks like it will arrive late Wednesday night and leave by very early Friday morning. As if the theater wasn't going to be great enough, the golf gods want to create perfect weekend scoring conditions.

Make sure you bookmark today's narrative. This will be our Bethpage bible for live betting all weekend. Our pre-match card will be published tomorrow night after the Friday morning Foursomes sessions are released. That announcement will tell us three things.

  1. How much each Captain is utilizing data driven pairings.
  2. A strong majority of Foursome pairings are repeated, so half of the team matchups.
  3. Who can play five times.

When those pairings (and the RTL card) come out, compare them to the golfer intelligence below. Begin to build out your Ryder Cup card on Thursday night. By combining the course knowledge you gained from yesterday with our player summaries today, you will become a better Bethpage bettor!
